Ganduje meets drug trafficking victims, showers N6m on them

The governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Wednesday showered N3million each to Zainab Aliyu and Ibrahim Abubakar, who were recently released from Saudi prison in a mistaken case drug trafficking.

Zainab Aliyu and Ibrahim Abubakar were led to the governor on Wednesday by the chairperson of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri.

The governor’s spokesman, Salihu Yakasai, disclosed donation in a statement, saying the governor thanked all those who played role in their release, particularly President Muhammadu Buhari.

The duo was arrested and detained for four months by the Saudi Arabian anti-drug trafficking agency over alleged drug trafficking, but were released after Nigerian and Saudi authorities established their innocence.

They were arrested on December 26, 2018 after their arrival in Saudi Arabia for lesser hajj.

Ms Aliyu, in a telephone chat with DAILY NIGERIAN on May 13, appreciated the efforts of Nigerian government, media and civil society for campaigning for her release.
